***Crazy News*** My mom found out and told me today that she tested positive for Celiacs Disease in addition to her gluten allergy. She got the genetic test, and like with me there is no doubt about it.
Like me she has been diagnosed with multiple autoimmune diseases that include arthritis, thyroid, and psoriasis and has suffered since her childhood. She is 61 in April.
It officially runs in both sides of my family via genetic testing. This comes after I was told 4 years ago @spectrumhealth hospital in Grand Rapids, MI when I became weak and nearly immobile due to intense muscle spasms/issues that none of my symptoms could be explained by another autoimmune disease like Celiacs.
One of the doctors went so far as to laugh/scoff at me for asking whether it could possibly be Celiac Disease, which I then knew ran in my dad’s side of the family. He not only told me with conviction that I did not have it, but that it would be a waste of my time, and any other doctors to try and seek a diagnosis after discharge. You may think this was the worst treatment I received at the hands of doctors since I struggled with Celiacs symptoms since infancy, but it was just the tip of the Ice Berg.
After that I left @spectrumhealth never to return, found a primary CA re doctor since I was new here, and demanded that he administer every Celiac test including the genetic one. I got my diagnosis and I did what no one getting paid hundreds of thousands of dollars a year could do for me, I started healing myself.
I had to get my gum lines completely replaced with donor tissue when I was in high school and they had started receding. They couldn’t even take the tissue from the top of my mouth as usual, that was too thinned out too. And years ago they even found the trademark lower intestinal inflammation and told me they were ruling it inconclusive.
This primary care doctor turned out to be a good one and got my mom her diagnosis too.
This is why we NEED Celiacs Disease and autoimmune disease awareness.
We are truly invisible in the health care world. - 34 minutes ago
