I am a blonde-haired, blue-eyed, white, English native speaking female digital nomad
there are so many privileges in that sentence and that's the point
I am a human and that's all that 𝘀𝗵𝗼𝘂𝗹𝗱 matter - but that's obviously not the case in current, alternative scenarios
I have spent YEARS of my life traveling around the world to foreign countries, immersing myself in different cultures, and experiencing life through other people's eyes
through the eyes of people who are so very different than, and so very similar to me.
people who don't speak my language, but still understand what I mean when I smile
people who look very different than me but still connect through music and laughter
these experiences have been extremely humbling and expanded my consciousness and perspective of reality immensely
during my years of travel, I have also had the opportunity to experience what it's like to be treated like a minority and as an outsider - like I don't "belong"
I definitely benefitted a lot of times, but other times it made me feel unsafe, taken advantage of, and overall like shit.
and these instances were extremely minor compared to what is happening in the world today (and always has been)
I am not saying that I understand what people of color are experiencing right now.
I certainly do not.
but I am choosing to show up with 𝒄𝒐𝒎𝒑𝒂𝒔𝒔𝒊𝒐𝒏 and 𝒆𝒎𝒑𝒂𝒕𝒉𝒚 anyways while I swallow the inherent privilege I have as a white woman and figure out what I can do about it
& as a human with a heart, I believe it is my responsibility to share, expand and grow, and am grateful for my travel and entrepreneurial communities for both insights and support
I know the world feels like a heavy mess right now, but I also believe that chaos precedes transformation, and change leads to growth - if we let it and make it so
social media is by definition a place where people in a community gather to communicate collectively.
so here I am, sharing something very, very important
I choose to see
I choose to care
I choose to act
@rachel.cargle is an invaluable resource right now, and I will continue to share as I learn and grow myself ♥ - 11 hours ago
