The very first reasons that we decide to establish this student association from scratch is that we realize that Waseda as a one of the most international university in Japan still do not have a student association that dedicated to those multicultural individuals. In nowadays, globalized world, it seems that the nationality no longer enough for identifying a person. Identity means more than a your nationally, ethnicity, culture and where you came from. In Waseda there are different kind of nationality based student association, but nothing for multicultural individuals, and we hope M&M will become the one for them (and us) .
The fundamental aim for our association is that we hope M&M can provide a “place to belong” for those multicultural individuals, provide a platform where they can connect with each others. Further more, as a long term objective for the circle, we hope we can contribute to the promotion of diversity in Waseda.
When students first heard about our name, they might all think about what does “mixed and multicultural” exactly means? Do I belong to that? What are the requirements? Here, I want to tell everyone that we did not have any exact criteria for being “mixed and multicultural”. Whether you are the one or not is all about how you see yourselves, how you define yourself. As I said before, identity is not only about nationality, ethnicity or culture. Try to ask yourself what exactly are you, might bring you a brand new findings about yourself.
We have a brand new event coming up in January, stay tuned for more info!! #mixed #multicultural #association #wasedauniversity #international #background #wasedamnm #student #tokyo #humansofmandm - 5 minutes ago
