A MANIFESTO for the NEVER ENOUGH-ians: As we start a new year, let’s remember that we are human beings, not human doings. Whether we achieve our goals or not, God loves us…and that’s a game-changer.
BACKSTORY: I've been recording a second of video footage everyday for FOUR YEARS now. And for the month of January, I decided it was time to spice up my seconds by trying something new.
I would use my 31 seconds to spell out a message 31 words long. One word per day!
MY MESSAGE? Well, on January 1st, while sitting on a bench at sunset at Disney’s Coronado Springs Resort, I discovered my “one word” for 2020: E N O U G H.
So, I determined that my 31 words would spell out a message of love and grace to those who–like me–struggle to believe we are enough as we are. Who fear there will never be enough time or energy for the hopes and dreams in our hearts. Who fall prey to the lie that our worth hinges on our successes. On how many goals that we crush or gold stars that we earn.
I call us “The Never Enough-ians.”
January can be such an exciting time for us. It’s a shiny new year without any failed goals or unmet aspirations to tarnish it. Oh the possibility! We think, “This is the year things will be different. This is the year I will finally…..”
And then, February rolls around with her cigarette dangling from her lips and jaded condemnations: “Look at you. Look at those goals you barely touched. Why did you even try? You’re pathetic.”
Okay, so maybe your month of February isn’t a chain-smoker like mine is. But maybe she’s just as cutting with her remarks. And maybe you need to call her out as a liar and saboteur like I do.
If so, this manifesto is as much yours as it is mine. May this be the truth that we remember and declare to silence the lies. And cling to the truth that we are loved as we are. Goals met or unmet.
P.S. Lots more with this came from over at The Thinking Closet if something is stirring within you about all this.
P.P.S. Major shout-out to @headsquirrels for sharing her index card message video LAST year and for @1SecondEveryday for featuring it! It 100% inspired mine.
