“Some journeys can be only traveled alone!”
– Ken Poirot
In my darkest days I still kept traveling. While I still felt alone, it served as a distraction from my destructive thoughts. The more I traveled the more alone I felt. As time went on I realized it was imperative to begin enjoying my travel companion; myself.
What first started as a distraction from myself is now a commitment to myself. One that makes more intentional decisions on travel. In short, I rarely go on vacation anymore. Rather, I travel to find out more about myself.
So over the next week of travel I’ve made a conscious decision to eliminate any outside interference, shut off my phone and focus on me.
I firmly believe you have to give to get. As an educator, I realize how much I give of myself in my work. Thus, I need to give myself that same love too.
So, a break from my routine and I’m off to a place where the language is different, the culture is different and a place where I will challenge myself as a person.
What have you done for yourself lately? Enjoy the weekend and catch you in a week or so. Be well.
