So to begin with, let us STOP judging women who don’t display their MARITAL STATUS on their neck, toes or forehead!
Unfortunate things do, and can, happen when we least expect it. In May 2019, my GOLD THALI CHAIN has been SNATCHED up by 2 bikers at the Petrol station. Though I did not suffer any major injuries but was bruised and scratched. It’s never a pleasant experience to have to go through. The trauma is life long! .
While there are others who have undergone worse experiences and lost life and limb to these scum of society, it will be difficult for me to overcome a now all-enveloping, pervasive fear for my personal safety. .
🗣I spoke to both my parents and in-law and sought their CONSENT for not SHOWING my Thali to the public. They agreed and my husband consented too. So presently, I am WEARING my Thali but concealing it.
So friends, kindly AVOID inboxing / Whatz app-ing me inquiring of why I'm not wearing my Thali Chain. I'm literally tired explaining to each one of you.
What I'm trying to say is we have the right to choose – the right to wear what we want, when we want, how we want. It’s one’s personal choice – let us learn to respect it. And it is not just about these ornaments – it is about so many other choices as well that women make.
There are enough people to pull us down – our patriarchal society is unfortunately full of them. As women, the least we can do is not to pull another one down. If we cannot understand her choices let us remain quiet instead of passing judgments. If we cannot admire women who follow their hearts, do what they want, we certainly have no right to mock them either.
