Mental training is perhaps the most neglected part of the entire marathon training process. Yet, it is one of the most important parts of the process! 
Marathon running follows the 80-20 rule. 80% of it is a mental battle, 20% of it is a physical battle. You will reach a point in your marathon training when you physically CAN go farther but you mentally feel like you absolutely CANNOT. 
You need to learn how to combat this. If you can talk yourself through the hard times, you will be successful. How you think is how you feel is how you will do!

It all comes down to your brain and what you are feeding it! Here are 7 reasons why mental training is so important for marathoners!

There are many strategies and tactics that you can use to become mentally stronger. My most preferred method though is self-talk or self-coaching. It is so powerful and absolutely works! 
A Few Mental Training Tips:

1️⃣ Be aware of your thoughts. You are having a constant dialogue with yourself during your training runs and during the race. 
2️⃣ Talk to yourself positively. Catch yourself when you are having a negative thought. Change it into a positive statement. 
3️⃣ Learn to redirect your focus. Don’t focus on the pain, focus on the gain! 
4️⃣ Practice mental training during your long runs! This will be your strongest predictor of success. 
It gives you mental training prompts and tactics to practice during each week of your marathon training plan so that you can develop and learn techniques and motivational tools to help make your training and race day easier!

Focusing on your mental strength will take your marathon to the next level! .

Was sind die Vorteile von virtuellen Wettkämpfen? Einer ist definitiv, dass man mehrere Versuche hat. Am Mittwoch Morgen habe ich mich an den 3. Lauf des #nightcup mit einer Distanz von 5km gewagt. Die Zeit war mit 17:28min bei einer PB von 16:55min nicht schlecht, dennoch bin ich ganz schön eingebrochen und unter meinen Erwartungen geblieben. Also heute neuer Versuch: Nach 5km kam ich selbst aus dem Staunen nicht mehr raus: 16:28min! Das hätte ich nach den Umfängen und Belastungen in den letzten Wochen nicht für möglich gehalten. Jetzt fehlt nur noch ein letzter 10km Lauf und es wird noch einmal spannend im Kampf um die AK Plätze.

📍Rusper 🏃‍♂️21km ⏱1h47
2nd of 3 Half Marathons in 3 days complete!!! ✔ wohoooo! This is going well! Legs are surprisingly ok and felt good to go after the 5th kilometer, starting on a relaxed pace and carried on until the little village of Rusper. The last kilometer until this little countryside place is all uphill, but didn't go too bad. Good thing is the way back, going down and kept me on a good pace until Crawley. Made myself a quick planned glass of water and continued for the final 6km around Northgate and Westgreen. My concern for today was the heat, as the 2nd HM would have been on a hot part of the day. Going to Rusper has been a wise decision because there are many areas where trees are protecting from the Sun and making it a little bit fresher.
Tomorrow is the final one! 3rd half marathon in the evening and on a slow pace. If it takes me 2h30, who cares?

What better way too cool down after a hot run??

Old skool lolly (fab) and a dip in the kids paddling pool. The legs needed the cooldown. .
Today's run with Dora in tow was from #leightonbuzzard to #dunstabledowns and back. To take a picture of the #trigpoint for #harriertrailrunning.

Totally worth it, just for the never ending views of the local counties. The perfect reason to go running silly distances to take a picture....

Tears of anger and frustration. I feel like giving up. Every time I get to a good place, something happens and I go back to 0. I don't want to go back to 0. Tried to go for a careful run today, but my hamstring told me it was having none of that after 0.5km.

What an awesome run! My husband joined me for my hour long run today. It was super fun to bring him along! 😊  We explored a few of our surrounding neighborhoods and looked at some cute houses. Also, we got to watch a huge thunderstorm roll through. The lightning was so cool to watch!

We ended up running 6.35 miles and had an average pace of 9'27"/mi. I am so glad that my husband joined me today!

Today I just felt like I was flying along! My coach gave me 3 x 5 min intervals with 2 min jog in between. I always wear my favourite shoes for any speed work or race....lately it’s my asics Kayano, they are so light to run in and I always seem to hit those paces comfortably. My last 5 min rep today was to aim for pace 5.15 and under...I thought I’d not look at my watch for the first minute and see where I feel comfortable, in my head I figured this would be 5 min k’s but when I looked at my watch and saw 4.40/km pace I couldn’t believe it. I was holding it comfortably and felt I had more in me but I also know I am still rebuilding and I didn’t want to push it so I pulled back.  I am just excited at how comfortable I felt at that pace and what’s ahead of me 👏
