Anxiety is basically increased cortisol, adrenaline and blood glucose. There is also an increase in lactate. There are other components to the body’s “anxiety” response, but you get the idea.
Why does the body create more of these chemicals?
Because this cocktail of biochemistry gives you energy.
Because you need energy in the presence of a threat to fight or flee. This system can be activated from an interaction with your boss, missing the train, to a whole host of seemingly small incidences.
In today’s society we are constantly made to feel under threat, stressed, not enough and that this affect is a mental disorder and quite simply IT IS NOT.
Exercise, movement and long exhales reduce the symptoms of acute anxiety.
Oh and if you get it and drink coffee, stop drinking fucking coffee.
