Let us introduce you to our GDPR and Quality Specialist, Pedro. We asked him about working in an international environment at Sector Alarm.
Have you worked in an international environment before?
Yes, I did a @IAESTE internship in Hungary when finishing my studies in Málaga’s University. I went to the Dunaújváros University, near Budapest, and spent two months experimenting with industrial waste water purification. I met many trainees from several countries across the world: Norway, Poland, Serbia, Germany, Scotland, UK, Taiwan, Portugal, Brasil… That amazing experience made me more open minded and outgoing.
How many languages do you use at the office?
Only Spanish and English, but in my mind is to learn Norwegian the next years as it would help in my job.
How many countries do you work for?
I work with all the countries across the organization. My main relationship is with SA Group to arrange audits, GDPR work, Quality Management System, Feedback system, etc. But I support all the countries in CS.
What’s the best thing about working with people from all over?
It’s great to work with people from different cultures, you can learn a lot from others since we have different perspectives of life.
What’s the most difficult thing in your daily work with different cultures?
Well, we're all a bit different. Spanish people are quite outgoing, we like to talk with others, trying to make a kind of friendship. But with Nordic people sometimes it's difficult, since they are much more introvert. Due to language differences and since we communicate in English, not our mother tongue, sometimes it could lead to misunderstanding.
Have you learned any new favorite words in another language?
Sure! My Finnish colleague Tiina is teaching me Finnish words, when we meet I say “Huomenta!” (Good morning) or “Moi” (hello) and “Mitä kuuluu” (how are you) in my imperfect Finnish. If she asks me first, I answer “Hyvää kiitos” (good thanks). It’s fun to learn this way. I’ve also learnt the numbers in Swedish doing co-listening.
The truth must be said; Pedro is great to work with in any language, we are very happy to have you as a colleague! - 2 hours ago
