This picture accurately represents me trying to advocate for the Neurodiversity Paradigm in order to gain equality, acceptance, and to celebrate the strength of neurodivergent people, but constantly running into naysayers, barriers, ignorance, and just plain discrimination. There are a lot of misconceptions about the Neurodiversity Movement and what its proponents are advocating for. During Autism “Awareness” Month in April there is a lot of misinformation that is circulated about autism specifically. I want to address some of these topics in the coming weeks. However, I think it’s necessary to take some time to talk about some of the terms, misconceptions, and history surrounding these issues. See comments for details. .
