It was the best of times...it was the worst of times...
Can you imagine how it might feel if you experienced your own funeral? I know this seems totally morbid, disturbing, and negative, (and my mother scolds me when I say this) but this was how it seemed back in May 2015. I mean cancer is the worst news anyone could possibly receive, right? So when my circle of family and friends learned of the news, they gathered like ants 🐜 🐜🐜 at a picnic 🍔🌭. I received such an outpouring of texts during surgeries, calls, hospital visits, people gathering at my parents’ house (I stayed there so my mother, a nurse—another blessing ✝️, could take care of me), flowers, food, pampering...you name it! Never in my wildest dreams would I expect so much love shared.
I dedicate this throw back Thursday to the friends and family who are nurses that checked my incisions, to those who took the time to do my hair before my chemo treatments, to make meals that took more time to make them than eat them, to take me to the movies or for a walk just to get me out of the house. I also appreciate those who lent me funny books & movies, sent Mass cards & daily jokes, and of course the prayers.
I could I not express such a deep, sincere appreciation for this genuine concern and care for my well being. This bittersweet time will never be forgotten. Sure I’ve moved on from the amputations & sickness, but not from those precious memories that made everything okay.
