My first experience (effort would be wrong. I've done nothing, really) at tomato growing this far into autumn/winter and I have to admit, I'm getting a little edgy...
These beauties self seeded with a mixture of varieties - roma, truss, cherry and these...gorgeous, perfect who knows? And no, no filter on this picture, just evening light up at the dam.
The temperatures have dropped and with clear skies these next few nights I have covered their new frame house with shade cloth and AGNSW art banners. I hope that that and the strawberry full moon protect them over this weekend. And Monet...
Meanwhile...their (intentionally planted) mates, over in their rightful place in the vege garden, have sprouted up becoming almost trees after the rains. They had all but disappeared over the summer, browning and curling up, much as we all did in the heat of those days.
Now, with leaves like giant chunky hands, they have grown folded fruits which I hope begin changing colour soon. If nothing else, these heirlooms will be plucked for their seeds to be sown for a more considerate summer season but be sure I will be eating some fresh. They, too, are covered...just in case. .
I feel we've come so far together, I don't want to lose them now.
