I want to recognize the privilege it is to be able to feed your body with organic, whole foods and that living a healthy lifestyle can come with a cost. I have worked in health food stores to get discounts and cleaned yoga studios in order to get a free membership, so I am right there with you. While I realize not everyone is able to do that (nor wants to), I do want to make a point of prioritizing your health, particularly with what you are eating. I am sure I do not have to emphasize about the importantance of our physical health. Without it, your life becomes completely altered. I am so grateful to wake up with a healthy body everyday and it makes it easy to want to continue to take care of it. When we become aware of what we are putting into our body, we are starting a mind-body connection. The majority of serotonin in our bodies is contained in our gut. The most obvious example of mind-gut connection is the pit you get in your stomach when feeling anxious. If you have noticed, eating your depression away rarely makes you feel better long term. Making your health more of priority is investing in yourself and wellbeing. 💓
Here are some of the ways I have been able to maintain this lifestyle on a budget: ➰I posted this yellow, baby broccolini as a perfect example of how to get something delicious and organic extremely cheap. Local farms, co ops or any natural grocery store may have produce that is “ugly” on the outside (even though I think my broccolini is beautiful) but still has the all of the good things for you on the inside. They also may have other items that are shortly expired (and still perfectly fine) at a discount. ➰Look for a bulk section. This way you can buy just as much as you need when you need it. ➰Cook your own meals and keep it simple. Cooking your own meals allows you to plan out what you need and work with what you already have. When you keep the ingredients list, short your body has less to digest and you can eat delicious meals in an affordable way.
Do what you can. A little bit goes a long way and we all start somewhere. Having awareness about what we are putting into our bodies is where it all starts. 🕉 - 1 hour ago
