Today we tried the Y skatepark. I liked how it wasn’t that crowded. Olive didn’t feel good so she left and I was alone just wondering what to do and kind of over it and intimidated to be alone. So I went in a pool because nobody seemed to be interested in it and I’ve never skated in one or in that style. Little by little the kids started coming over and giving me tips and talking about how they wanted to learn this or that and it was just the cutest thing because they look so hardcore but they’re so nice. Both times now I’ve gone to a skatepark these boys have just come up to me and started conversation and been friendly. It’s so interesting and so much more community-like than snowboarding ever was. So my little tiny carve around the base of the bowl was a pretty big accomplishment for me today.
On the other hand, before that, I did a rock n roll on a concrete drop in and somehow on the way down flew what felt like 100 feet in the air and smashed down so hard I think I almost broke my ankle (hip feels fine already) and wrist. Boy those wrist guards came out fast after that. 👎🏼Ouch.
Lastly though, what was the funniest thing today, was after I fell and was resting, this kid rolls up to me and goes, “are you like an old school pro or something?” And that just made my day. I’ll take it.
