Facebook has a way of bringing memories to life and this one got to me... A Conversation of Two Brotherly Souls
P: Why are you feeling down today, Koko?
K: You should know, Padre. Why do you ask?
P: Get off it, I thought we've walked this path before, talked this over!
K: Oh! Really? Can we ever talk our hearts out of loving when the loved one lives right in there?
P: Of course we can't do that. But that is not what I meant.
K: Okay, can we then ever talk our memory from remembering someone with whom we shared the best memories of life?
P: Well, I wouldn't think so, our working memory lives with us. But, our working memory is to enable us to encounter the reality as it confronts us.
K: And what is the reality here, Padre?
P: That we're never far apart, that our lives are daily blessed with the gift of each other.
K: But isn't the reality also that one year has trekked past so laboriously, with scars that have refused to heal?
P: Scars aren't necessarily symbols of weakness, but also of strength. Most times they are reminders of our resilience and survival. Every scar tells a story.
K: I just want to hold your hand, Padre. Today and everyday!
P: Go ahead, Koko. I'm ever close by. In thoughts. In prayers. In eternity.
K: And I also want to shed a tear!
P: And even that too, I'm ready to kiss it away....
K: And, I....
P: ....I know, you want to hug me too. I want to do same too.
K: Yes, and let myself feel the warmth of your love, and the consolation of your friendship.
P: I've always been here, Koko. Remember? I always will be. ......and the hand stretches forth, a tear trickling down as the warmth of a loving hug wraps itself around my being.... #brotherhood #blacklivesmatter #priest #msp #chicago #newyork #yonkers #southafrica #canonist #pastor #grief #poetry #love #light #memories #gratitude - 10 minutes ago
