Is it worth it? Would you do it all over again? .
.
.
.
Someone asked me a question the other day that made me pause. They asked me if my whole strenuous journey to PA school was worth it and if I were to start all over would I choose the same path again. I paused not because I was unsure but because I was smiling and thinking to myself, “HELL MUTHAF*^~N’ YES” .
.
.
.
The truth is my path has taken A LOT of twists and turns but my grandma always told me that God has his own plan for me. Now I know what that is. .
.
.
.
The process is ROUGH and I don’t know how many times I went through streaks of self-doubt. However, all those times I spent asking myself if I was good enough taught me to respond with, “of course I am”. So if there’s ever days where you think you might be wasting your time—remember why you started. .
.
.
.
I started because my family was personally affected by their lack of connection to their providers. I started because I saw my community was being affected by respiratory diseases. I started because of that day I looked into my patient’s eyes, told them it gets better and felt their confidence in what I had just said. .
.
.
.
So is it worth it? Would I do it all over again? HELL YES I WOULD. I hope you would too. .

It is crucial to know the schools that you are applying to. Does the mission statement fit the academic & career style that you want?
You must do your research and see how you fit into the programs. Then if it is a good match, make sure to tailor your personal statement and more importantly the supplemental application to express how you fit into the mission/vision/goal of the program, why they should pick you, and how you can make their school ether by attending it.
Happy Tuesday!

After 3 hours in the classroom, and after 10 hours of hands on training, PA students from the University of Oklahoma- Tulsa PA Program were able to acquire and describe images for basic aorta, cardiac, DVT, lung, and thyroid studies on standardized patients. Congrats to OU-Tulsa and to lead author & iScan instructor Mark Purdue on this endeavor and for bettering the lives of the community in which they serve!

We agree with their conclusions:
"The use of POCUS has changed the diagnostic paradigm of
medicine. For the PA profession to maintain the evolving standard of care, PA programs will inevitably be required toteach these important skills. Our study confirms that POCUS training can be effectively implemented in PA programs with
costs and faculty time burdens that are not prohibitive."

Feel free to contact SPOCUS to get your faculty trained, to set up a student ultrasound interest group, or for any other #POCUS related questions!

HOLY WHAT!?! Today is my official FIRST DAY OF CLASSES! EEP! Although lecture is taking place in my living room with my slippers and not on campus, I couldn’t be any happier! I was reflecting on my journey to this point and it included a lot of tears, even more self doubt, some blood (looking at you Micro and Ochem), but also a whole lot of 𝘎𝘙𝘐𝘛. Even on the days where I wanted to give up (there were at least 5), I pulled myself up and made myself push because I knew this is what I wanted. Sitting here right now and looking back on those hard, 𝐡𝐚𝐫𝐝 days of thinking I was not good/smart enough to be a PA, I want to THANK MYSELF for shaking off those negative thoughts and keep pushing forward! I am so excited for what is to come and beyond ready learn information that will, one day, save lives!⁣ ⁣

Congratulations to all the recent grad PAs! Next is PANCE. Here are some of my tips on studying for PANCE. ⁣
⁣
- Create a schedule: I organized my studying by starting with topics that I didn’t feel confident on⁣
⁣
- Remember each sections overall “weight”: Cardio and GI are a large percentage of the PANCE so you may want to spend more time on those systems⁣
⁣
- Use your QBanks: my favorite question bank was Rosh followed by PAEasy, Exam Master and Kaplan. There is also UWorld.⁣
⁣
- Practice Exams: there are several practice exams online that help you know where you are BEFORE taking the exam⁣
⁣
- Complete an exam for the full length of time of the PANCE: You would hate to feel tired or unprepared because you never sat for 5-6 hours taking an exam. ⁣
Good luck studying ☀️⁣

Let’s chat...⠀
⠀
Are you currently working from home/stuck at home due to all this coronavirus bull?⠀
⠀
Do you have all the time in the world, all the free resources, and you’re still not getting a workout in everyday? Or really any day at all?⠀
⠀
Then let me let you in on a little secret, sister...⠀
⠀
I know what you’re missing. It’s called, ACCOUNTABILITY!⠀
⠀
Because if it’s just you, alone, on your fitness journey, who’s gonna know if you a skip a workout, or two, or three, or four? No one right? You can just give up on yourself and no one will ever know.⠀
⠀
That’s why this WORKS, y’all! It takes everything; working out, nutrition, and community/accountability and combines it all!⠀
⠀
I would NOT be this far along in my fitness journey through quarantine if it weren’t for my girls! You need people to hold you accountable to stick to your goals! Let me and my girls be those people for you!! We’d love to have you!⠀
⠀
So if what I described above sounds like you, then jump in with us girlfriend. We’ll help hold you accountable and encourage and motivate you the whole way!⠀
⠀
We’ve just opened enrollment for our June bootcamp and we’d love to have you! The theme is “Summer lovin” because this summer we are working on loving our bodies, and building our self confidence!⠀
⠀
Comment below or message me to join 💖What are you waiting for?! LETS GO!⠀

Do I regret not going to medical school?⁣
So if you don’t know I originally was accepted to medical school then change of heart ❤️ I decided I’m going to take a gap year and apply to PA school⁣
•⁣
What am I nuts?⁣
•⁣
Well maybe... I guess will see ⁣
•⁣
So far I don’t regret it but again I haven’t had the chance to regret it yet, while medical students get priority, people view doctors differently than PA’s ⁣
Well in a lot of cases doctors have more authority than PA’s they also do make more money ⁣
I still would have picked PA school over medical school ⁣
•⁣
Here are my reasons ⁣
1. Balanced lifestyle: I’m not sure if you know but I come from a middle eastern back ground. While I have the utmost respect for women Especially someone like my girlfriend I do view it as my duty as the man of the house to provide, being in a relationship with a partner that has started her career already pushed me towards picking an option with less schooling ⁣
2. Less schooling means less loans you pretty much cut the amount of loans in half plus you don’t need to do residency⁣
3. You are still seeing patients diagnosing and treating them (one of the main reasons I wanted to go into medicine)⁣
4. Lateral mobility, to this day I am not sure what specialty I want to be in so I’m glad I get to change specialties when I want without having to go back for residency or a fellowship ⁣
5. Quite frankly my working hours didn’t mean shit to medical schools which was disappointing all they cared about was my GPA and mcat scores. (Which were average) ⁣
All aboard.... 🛳 ⁣

𝚚𝚞𝚊𝚛𝚊𝚗𝚝𝚒𝚗𝚎 𝚛𝚎𝚖𝚒𝚗𝚍𝚜 𝚖𝚎 𝚘𝚏 𝚖𝚢 𝚐𝚊𝚙 𝚢𝚎𝚊𝚛- ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀ I went into my gap year picturing how they look like in the movies- you have time off to travel, spend weekends with friends, and come home to no obligations, carefree. In reality, it was actually pretty boring. At the times I wasn’t bored, I was stressed. I got a taste of adult life, instantly starting my full time position not even a month after graduating in December. I spent my “free time” 𝑎𝑑𝑗𝑢𝑠𝑡𝑖𝑛𝑔 to a new schedule and 𝑡𝑎𝑘𝑖𝑛𝑔 𝑜𝑛𝑙𝑖𝑛𝑒 𝑐𝑙𝑎𝑠𝑠𝑒𝑠 to get those last credits I needed for some PA schools. It was difficult for my body to adjust to an early 6am start to my day, and to come home feeling exhausted after taking in so much new training material. I was so overwhelmed I had to withdraw from my first class EVER… after enduring max credit schedules in undergrad. I was spreading myself thin, all while comparing my life to my friends who were experiencing their last semesters together, and comparing my CASPA application to the applicants who had 3x the PCH I had. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀ I’m just gonna say it: it sucked. But I got through it over time, so I know we will get through this. So no matter how long this quarantine will last, give yourself a grace period to adjust, and don’t try to pile up all these obligations and expect to do them because these are just not normal circumstances.

If life is easy, you’re probably not challenging yourself enough. 👌

One of my favorite things about being a PA is that I get the opportunity to grow and learn every single day. I’ve been a PA for about three years now and every single day is different. Getting to see a rare condition that you read about in textbooks is so exciting. I also get to learn alongside some amazing doctors, PAs, and nurse practitioners. Medicine is continually changing and you have to stay up-to-date with all their most current research.⁣

I think the challenge of staying current with literature keeps things exciting. I’m a lifelong learner in both my professional and personal life. I’ve learned to love reading and podcasts. Because if we aren’t growing, life becomes stagnant and boring. I’m not here to live an average boring life. ⁣
