Posture check!!! We're living on our devices more than ever these days, don't let your bad habits turn into lifetime dysfunction.
I thought I was immune, because I'm aware of my posture and a dancer but that wasn't enough. Look at that hunch! Here are a couple of stretches I like to do when I've been huddled over a screen for too long.
A couple consequences of hunching:
Thoracic outlet syndrome - The nerve bundle for your arms, comes out of your neck and under your collar bone. When you round your shoulders, the muscles on the front tighten and there is less space for those nerves. This can lead to nerve impingement (pinching the nerves, like kinking a hose), resulting in pain, numbness, and other fucky things in your hands.
Kyphosis - exaggerated curve in upper back. The more you hunch over, the bigger your hump back and the smaller the front of your body becomes. This leaves less room for other things, like your guts and lungs. Less room equals less blood flow and then they do a shitty job. Also, when your spine is bent all wrong, it's easier to injure. You can also development scoliosis.
