As a white, privileged woman I will not say that I understand because I know I truly don’t. I know I’m not a perfect person either and wish I could spend more time protecting others who suffer from these injustices. But I do want you to know, I am on your side.
I have never understood how people could hate another person just by the color of their skin. My outlook on life has always been “as long as you aren’t hurting anyone, I will love you and be your friend.” It’s disgusting and it breaks my heart because I think about the people I love that are close to me who are POC and I would never want them to feel unheard or unloved because I value them so much!
I have seen people say “you, nor anyone else for that matter, are going to make a difference by speaking out on this. You are wasting your time ” and I couldn’t disagree more. I want each of you to know, that it will NEVER be a waste of time to defend others who cannot defend themselves. You should always be passionate about change to prevent racial injustices of beautiful and innocent people. If you make one person feel uncomfortable about their words or actions, that is one more person that could think different before participating in such heinous crimes. If MLK, Rosa Parks, and Nelson Mandela (and many others) all thought the same way we would still be 100 steps backwards. But, we are not even close of where we need to be.
As a future doctor, I want every single one of my patients to feel safe in my presence. I want everyone to feel welcome and know they will receive the BEST care regardless of the color of their skin, who they identify as, who they love, their culture, religion, etc etc. but most importantly I want them to know I will ADVOCATE and PROTECT you the best way I know how. Being an anti-racist isn’t enough. You have to correct people when they are acting out... you have to make people understand that words and acts of hate toward anyone is not okay and not normal.
I am open to any ways I can do better because I always have room to grow! ♥️ - 38 minutes ago
