~ Does this scenario sound familiar? ~
Parent ~ "Your room is a mess, you need to clean it up."
Child ~ "It's fine how it is, I like it this way" or "I'll clean it up if you stop nagging" or "Don't come in here if you don't like it."
However the conversation goes, the frustration between parent and child over the child's bedroom is a common theme.
Recently, a lovely client of mine turned the all familiar conversation on its head - "Darling, there's no need to do anything in your room - a professional organiser is coming to help you sort it!"
A week later I arrived for the organising session, only to discover the darling daughter had already spent hours clearing and sorting her room. The only tasks left to do was to organise her desk and sort through some books for donating.
*Just for the record, I'm not that scary - but I guess the daughter wasn't to know that 😂*
Sometimes side-stepping the arguments and frustrations by bringing in outside help, can make you wonder why you didn't do it sooner... - 22 days ago
