As some of you may know nine weeks ago I slipped a disc in my back resulting in nerve damage to my right leg. I’d class today’s leg session as my first proper leg day since then-the weights were ridiculously light compared to usual (squatting half my usual amount of weight for ten reps!) however it felt really good to get back to doing all the usual movements that I know and love.

COULD DIETING FOR HOLIDAYS BE RUINING YOUR PROGRESS? Deciding whether or not to diet down for a holiday can be a tough decision; on the one hand if you spend a lot of time/ money on your training and diet, you want to look good when you’re walking around half naked on holiday. On the other hand, if you are spending half of every year in a calorie deficit, you are unlikely to be making much progress year to year. It all comes down to how many holidays you take a year, how fast you are able to gain muscle, and whether you would rather look good every time you go away, or look better over time. I always advocate fairly long periods of eating at a calorie surplus, especially if like myself your potential rate of growth is relatively low, but I I only aim to add a maximum of a kilo a month, which allows me to stay in reasonable shape fairly deep into my bulking phase. Bad news. I'm just beat up. So I've opted to start maintenance now and go back to pushing hard from the second week of April. I have absolutely grown since the beginning of this block at the start of December. These months reaffirmed 2 things: eat as much as possible and go heavier at every opportunity (if you think can go heavier, go heavier). That's it. I went lowish volume but heavy on the weights and I went heavy on the foods.

Maintenance starts today. Head going down for college and that's where it's staying(with a few days off in March because holidays).

🤕 Not feeling it 🤕

Wasn’t really feeling in the greatest mood for squats today.

But I went.
.
And I smashed it👊🏼.
.
Sometimes you may not feel in the right mindset to go to the gym, but I encourage you to go when you least feel like it.
.
No workout is ever a bad one, you will still benefit from going and you will definitely feel better afterwards as opposed to feeling worse for skipping!

I could’ve decided not to go, but I went, and I put the weight up on my squats and pushed myself!
.
If you’re needing that motivation right now, then go before it’s too late and you’ve missed your chance!  Of course missing one day is not the worst thing in the world, but if you know you’ll be angry with yourself then motivate yourself to go and save yourself the upset later on!
