WHAT IS NEGATIVE GEARING❓
Negative gearing is when you borrow money to invest into an asset and the income you make from that investment, say a rental property, is less than your expenses, so you’re making a loss. Of course, when investing in property, the main goal is always to generate a profit, but as we know, this is not always the case. Thankfully, Australian law allows investors to deduct any losses they make on an investment property from their taxable income – thus making it easier for people to invest and increase rental housing supply.
