Toothbrushes were one of the most common objects that my team and I were finding at the beach cleanups. This gross, mouldy, covered is algae toothbrush is potentially older than me, yet it still didn't break down one bit. 🦷 Plastic toothbrushes are made from toxic by-products like crude oil and petroleum. While you brush your teeth, those toxins leak into your body. 😳
🦷Plastic toothbrushes are not recyclable because of the mix of plastics they are made from; they also can't be burned for power, as they release even more chemicals. 🦷 The toothbrush is a bigger problem than you realise, it is the first thing you touch in the morning and last before going to bed and taking into consideration dentists suggest to replace your toothbrush every six months, imagine how many of those you are going to send to the landfill during your life (around 300!). Solution? Bamboo toothbrushes!
Bamboo grows faster (faster growing plant on earth), requires less water, it is also biodegradable and naturally antibacterial. Toothbrushes made from bamboo require less energy and are just more sustainable option!
What are you waiting for! Get yourself a bamboo toothbrush, but only when the life of your current one comes to an end. Who already has one? 🙋♀️
