As a runner (bear with me, this could be long) (dude, seriously, buckle up) I often question my motivation.
Am I running for my mental health? Well, probs a given as it makes me the best version of myself, and those EXTRAORDINARILY LUCKY people who are in daily contact with me will be doing their habitual clenched teeth smile and slight head-bob of acknowledgement.
Am I running to keep fit and stave off incident type II diabetes?
Well, yes; I started running after all as I was a bit podgy and wanted to prove that I could do more than 13 seconds of cardio without bursting into flames. Also, so I could keep up with the whippet masquerading as my son.
Mainly, I’ve realised, I run to keep myself on my toes. No one is their harshest critic, save themselves, but I’ve managed to turn this into a positive. I joke about IRW and her MASSIVE pain in the ass tendencies (you’ve met her, she’s a fucking nightmare), but she makes me push myself and so I try and make her proud (actually, I try and make her shut her the fuck up, no one needs a pb every bloody run 🙄)
Anyway; here be a speed session with 3 days to go. Just a parkrun then we’re done
