Thirdish and last day in Okayama and once again day filled with pretty colours and beautiful scenery, so also a ton of pictures haha.
Got up a bit earlier then usual so a could do all the things I wanted and get the train on time towards Tokushima.
So first off I went towards the Okayama garden, Kōraku-en. What I expected to be a 30 minute stroll through a beautiful garden became closer to a 2 hour tour and walk haha. To start with when I got inside the garden the main building wasn't available for sightseeing that day, but this turned out to not be a bad thing. There was a group of people that were playing an old Japanese game named Tohsenkyo (they told me it was from the start of the edo period, 1603-1868). This is a game best compared to darts; 2 players sit on opposite sides of a rug/carpet trying to hit a small statue on a wooden block, they do this by "throwing" a fan towards it. There are various other rules such as hitting the wooden block and that you have to keep your rump against your heels. All in all simple rules but quite an enjoyable game.
After playing Tohsenkyo someone asked me if I wanted a tour through the garden, which I accepted of course. The tour was lovely, she told me quite a bit about the garden, such as where the stream starts, how, long it is (about 638 meters), which ponds are the biggest and where it ends. She also told me what kind the tree is that makes the autum here so colourful, turns out they are maple trees! All of it was really nice and at the end it turned out she was a volunteer and they give people tours for free.
After the garden I went to the castle right next to it, but that's for next post.
