Many of us (myself included) can be so hard on ourselves! Despite what we may think, that inner critic doesn't make us any more effective or productive parents, spouses/partners, co-workers or friends. In fact, it does the opposite, often causing us to feel powerless, isolated and trapped! The good news? It doesn't have to be this way. While I know it's not always easy, awareness is the first step. Once we become mindful of this vicious cycle, we can begin to learn and choose kinder ways of speaking to ourselves. As self-compassion researcher Kristen Neff says, "Why not try treating yourself like a dear friend and see what happens!?"

Day 14 - Routine
I spent almost two hours around this beautiful lake in Sweet Home and it was great. This isn't a routine, but will definitely become one. It felt great, like when I used to go walking on the beach. There was a kayaker, a fisherman and a family with toddlers enjoying the beauty. I even came home with a few goodies; driftwood, some for me and a few for Apollo.

Btw, I did try to take Apollo to the local lake, but he wasn't having it. He's like his pops and rather hang out at home. ๐Ÿ˜Š

YOUR LOSS OF PEACE IS YOUR CHOICE...
We all have emotional triggers, buttons that people can press that send us from 0 to 100 in under ten seconds. .
There are words that people can use that literally sends us into a fit of โ€œHow dare you!โ€ or โ€œYou WILL NOT talk to me that way!โ€ .
Let somebody call me a liar or tell me Iโ€™m โ€˜too muchโ€™ and watch how quickly I go from tactful to cross-examination and back you into a corner mode... and we all have those.
.
And... itโ€™s important to remember in those emotionally charged moments that the second you allow someoneโ€™s pushing your buttons to determine your state of mind, you have given them power to decide your peace... and no one but you should have that.
.
So... what do you do when someoneโ€™s acting up in your life and making you want to go Incredible Hulk on them?
3 Things:
1. Breathe- 10 deep breaths and counting silently to yourself will get you off of them and back to center.
2. Self-soothe- Hold yourself, pat your own arm, silently comfort yourself, whatever it takes to get your heart rate back to normal and the fight or flight response gone.
3. Leave- You do not have to keep company with anyone trying to destroy your peace (whether consciously or unconsciously). Exit the situation and go where you feel peaceful.

My 20s were a time of "Yes" for everyone and a whole lot of "No" for myself. "Yes, I will mold myself, inconvenience, self-sacrifice, and bend over backwards...if that means you will care/love/accept me." Which translated into "No, I don't have boundaries, needs or opinions"โ €

My 30s have been the rise of the "No." "No, I can't meet at that time. Does another day work?" "No, I won't be able to help out with that. How else can I support you?" "No, I don't want to go, I am exhausted and my body really needs to rest."โ €

While I still feel the guilt (working on this) as the words come out of my mouth...I know that it also means I am saying "Yes" to myself. โ €

Obviously there are still times that I do things that I don't want to do, but they are fewer and I always try to check my intention: what is my motivation? Am I seeking external validation or a potential way to connect and create opportunities? There is most definitely a difference and the check-in makes a difference in my growth and learning. โ €

recovery is HARD 
itโ€™s confusing 
itโ€™s painful 
AND
itโ€™s worth it
in early recovery your ed will get 100 times louder and try to make you doubt yourself, but thatโ€™s Edโ€™s trick. he tries to get you to glorify your ed days, but thereโ€™s nothing beautiful about eyes that have lost their spark, isolating yourself bc youโ€™re too scared of people judging your body, or being stuck in the hospital bc of how unmedically stable you are.

there are so many things outside of our eating disorders. tonight was rough in a multitude of ways.  but then me n my lil spent awhile looking at memes and cute animal pictures. she wanted ice cream and so i drove her to sonic and we both got food. recovery is hard, itโ€™s messy, itโ€™s terrifying, and going through it is the way back to a life that is full of laughter and love instead of calorie counting and over exercising 
i would take ice cream runs with her over my eating disorder every time ๐Ÿงก

this has been up heavy for me,this community + my clients this week - as iโ€™ve gotten soo many questions around this
.
even though we know people donโ€™t know what we want - we donโ€™t often admit how badly we want them to.
.
whether itโ€™s from unmet needs during our childhood, insecurity, fear, wanting to feel safe, etc - we feel better when people around us anticipate what we need.
.
what iโ€™ve learned is that it ALSO feels good to share what you need and have people meet you. .
it feels good to clear the air with people whoโ€™ve hurt you and have the ability to hear you
.
this past weekend i had the most INTENSELY BEAUTIFUL ongoing (like until 4:30am ongoing) conversation with friends of mine where we talked about it all and realized how much the issues we all shared with each other and others were based on needs weโ€™d never shared - and iโ€™ve known one of those people almost 20 years.

the thing is, we know the side of people they feel safe showing. and as we evolve, we change, our needs change + what we want changes. randomly blurting that out, projecting, or passive aggressiveness DOES NOT get the message across.
.
but, giving yourself the space to figure out what you need, grieve, heal then share what you need to share does (with healthy folks)
.
use the questions frequently when things come up to discern if external conversations are even necessary- and if they are, whatโ€™s ACTUALLY a problem for you versus whatโ€™s a problem that no one couldโ€™ve ever known. it doesnโ€™t mean its your fault (that would be shame) but it does mean it opens up an experience for growth for everyone involved x

I had already โ€œtriedโ€ this business once before and decided โ€œit didnโ€™t work for meโ€. But the day I found out I was pregnant, I couldnโ€™t stop thinking about ways to make money without paying someone to take care of MY baby.
