Evvvveeerrryyy once in a while a movie comes along that reminds you why you ever loved movies in the first place. These times and movies become rarer and rarer the older I get. Sure there’s always great films every year that tick the boxes and deliver the goods- but I find myself enjoying those films differently from the way I enjoyed movies when I was younger. Great movies I understand to be great because I can see the decisions made behind the camera and the keystrokes in the scripting and the movie stars they got for the picture and all the nuts and bolts that make the machine work. Sometimes that cinematic-carpentry is obvious and it’s just part of the craft. It’s not a bad thing, just a different thing. Then, a movie comes along that makes you stop thinking about the moviemaking process or the choices made or the casting or the impressive shots or the lens choices or the set pieces because the nuts and bolts vanish into thin air. Suddenly you’re watching a movie effortlessly, not thinking about anything- you’re just there with the story and the world and the characters that inhabit it. It’s real and it’s fun and an amazing way to experience a movie. My buddy just so happened to write a movie that does just that. So if you’re looking for something imaginative, endearing, adventurous, and kind go watch TROOP ZERO! @lalucyalibar writes words real good.
