For some background, our first child, Posey Ruth, was born at a hospital with an epidural & pitocin. It was a beautiful day & one of my most favorite of my life. But after learning more about birth over the past 2 years, I knew I wanted a different experience this time. I started reading everything I could get my hands on, talking to & following accounts of natural birth enthusiasts, specifically home birth. The more I learned, the more comfortable, at peace, & certain Jarad & I became that this was the right way for us this time.
On to the story — Starting week 37 I was having contractions every night right around dinner time or so (& sometimes throughout the day as well). My excited mind would think, “I bet tonight’s the night. He’s coming.” I’d go to sleep so ready to be woken up to intensified contractions, only to have them disappear. Every. Single. Day. For 3+ weeks. By the end, I stopped thinking “tonight’s the night” & started thinking I’d waddle around like this forever 😆 - kidding... kinda. Although I did have to remind myself that God already had the perfect birthday picked out. I couldn’t change it. I couldn’t miss it. It was settled. I just needed faith & patience.
Fast forward to the due date - April 29th. Posey Ruth had come exactly on hers (Mar 9, 2018), so in the somewhat common 2nd child fashion, I assumed he’d be earlier. April 29th came & went. I saw my midwives April 30th & they recommended acupuncture to get things moving. I had already tried two chiropractic appointments & both times the Chiro was confident he’d arrive within 24-48 hours (which he did not). So to hear this acupuncturist had helped 80% of mamas go into labor in the following 24-48 hours left me less than impressed. But I’m always up for something new, so I drove directly to the office from my midwives’. Acupuncture was amazing & that’s a story for another day, but I was thoroughly impressed & enjoyed the experience immensely. I went twice - once Thursday afternoon & again on Friday midday. On Friday I fell asleep during the treatment & then again at home for about 2 hours afterwards. Clearly, it had relaxed my body, which was exactly what I needed. - 3 hours ago
