I love to hunt, but usually life is just to busy to get out.

Het uitstellen van taken die je eigenlijk moet doen en waarbij je weet dat het uitstellen waarschijnlijk niet goed voor je is omdat het tot moeilijkheden of extra stress zal leiden, maar wat je toch doet. “Uitstel maakt gemakkelijke dingen moeilijk en moeilijke dingen nog moeilijker”. Dit is een passende quote van Mason Cooley en eigenlijk weet iedereen wel dat dit zo is.

Wat zijn zaken die wij liever uitstellen, wat ons uiteindelijk frustratie en stress opleverd?
Een verslag dat moet worden gemaakt voor een bepaalde datum,  voorbereidingen voor bijeenkomsten of het uitstellen van een negatieve boodschap, vervelende klussen, het doen van de afwas of boodschappen.

Hoe kan je uitstelgedrag tegen gaan?
- Maak voor jezelf een takenlijstje of een planning
- Verdeel een grote taak in kleine stapjes.
- Zet alles klaar om te beginnen zodat je jezelf aan de taak kan herinneren.
- Zorg voor zo min mogelijk afleiding.
- Maak afspraken met jezelf of met je omgeving en koppel een deadline aan je acties.
- Begin met de taak waar je het meest tegenop ziet.

Do you tend to get stressed out over the holiday season? I do.

I try my best to maintain an anchor in times of stress, including around the holidays! It’s hard NOT to get caught up in a general sense of anxiety and stress, even when it’s not your own shit.
.
And being able to recognize where it’s coming from, is hard work itself! It takes some self-awareness to figure out “ok I’m a little stressed out and it’s making me amplify everything” vs “I’m getting caught up in someone else’s anxiety, this isn’t mine to carry so I don’t have to”.
.
Listen to your body and take a break when you need to. This is a reminder that it’s not selfish-- this is SELF CARE. I don’t know how we ended up glorifying self-sacrifice, doing things like punishing ourselves to get results or giving giving giving until we’re running on fumes. I used to think this was what it meant to be a good person too.

The thing is, every human has basic needs. If you’re not taking care of yourself, either no one will OR you’re putting it on someone else to take care of you, which isn’t fair either!

I’m taking the morning for myself. You should too! Or the next evening, afternoon, weekend, SOMETHING. .
