Did you hear about “beauty sleep”? Well, there’s quite a bit of research and science behind the concept of beauty rest.
First, you should understand that sleep is the time when your body repairs itself. Skin renewal rate almost doubles at night! During sleep, your skin’s blood flow increases, and the organ (yes, skin is the biggest organ in human body) rebuilds its collagen and repairs damage, reducing wrinkles and age spots. During the day skin cells are in defense mode, working to protect themselves from free radicals, sun and elemental exposure, when the sun goes down, your mind and body switch into an active regeneration mode – fixing daytime damage and boosting the production of substances that renew.
So, the best place to start is to get enough rest every (or almost every) night. Average for adults is 7 to 9 hours of sleep 💤
▪️Try sleeping on your back to reduce compressions of your face resulting in wrinkles. Or if you’re a side sleeper (like I am) use silk pillowcases.
▪️Avoid caffeine, alcohol and cigarettes right before bed.
▪️Limit exposure to blue light (ex. your phone, tablet, computer or TV).
▪️Maintain daily activity and exercise.
▪️Wind down! Your body needs time to shift into sleep mode, try spending the last hour before bed doing a calming activity and relaxing.
Work on your sleeping habits to help your mind and body 💛
