The parts of my skin that I’ve coloured in
I got this tattoo when I was 17 years old so I’m not gonna say where I got it just in case. It’s stayed strong and figured out the other day I’ve now been tattooed longer than I haven’t.
It was at a tattoo parlor my mum was going to get tattoos from at the time and she took me along and gave the artist the go ahead to do it.
3 things I clearly remember.
1. After he pulled the first line the on the tattoo he stopped and said “there you go, your tattooed now, no going back” and everyone else in the parlor cheered.
2. I remember the artist showing me a tattoo he’d gotten the night before, it was a big American traditional dagger on the inside of his forearm. I asked him “why?” And he said “coz it’s a traditional tattoo. And to me. That’s what a tattoo is meant to look like”. And I said “nah, tattoos have to have meaning otherwise what’s the point?”
Now that I’m older and have spent more time around tattoo artists I realize the 18 year age limit is in place not for the client, but so tattooist don’t have to put up with fucking teenagers trying to tell them what a “real tattoo is”. I’m fucking lucky he didn’t draw a massive cock and balls down my arm after that.
3. The tattoo artist was also a wrestler when he wasn’t tattooing. He showed me the mask he wore when he wrestled, as well of so pics of him in the ring, and I realized then that tattoo artist might be coolest people in the world.
