This is a #1994 #IMZ #Ural #M67 #Soviet #Knight . This long lived make of #motorcycles began as a government project in 1940 when the #USSR reverse engineered the 1938 vintage 750cc #BMW R71 into what they called the M72. These rugged #motos , packing a 28HP 4 stroke boxer twin mated to a 4 speed transmission with shaft drive, proved to be a key part of the Red Army's defenses. During WW2, to escape the advance of the Wehrmacht, production of many of these bikes were moved to the Ural mountain city of #Irbit ; these mountains would soon lend their name to the line.
Fast forward to 1974; the Irbit Motorcycle Works (IMZ) were still in business and were thriving both at home and abroad with military and civilian sales. Constant upgrading and refinements of the old girl had resulted in them launching a new model that year; the 650cc Ural M67. This bike would go on to have a very long life. Ural's #UK importer, #Neval , created a number of special packages for the M67 to jazz up these #Russian workhorses; one of the most famous being the 1991-1996 Soviet Knight. In order to give more of a #cruiser feel to the Ural; Neval fitted higher handlebars, crash bars, upswept silencers, extra lights, stickers, leather saddlebags, and a supremely comfy oversized leather saddle.
I had posted one of these #bikes , a 1991, a couple of weeks ago, but I wasn't thrilled with the way the picture turned out. This one is a bit better; at least it's square the way #Instagram prefers. Eventually I intend to repost all my early content that had non-standard aspect ratios with upgraded square pics and mildly improved captions.
#Bike photo was tweaked by me. The original can be found at:
