I had a leisurely ramble through the quiet village of Arkesden today. It has been voted as one of the prettiest villages and has one of the best pubs and loveliest churches.
The fictional book Swanbrooke Down was based on village life here in Arkesden. These old dwellings date back to the 17th century. Wicken Water meanders between weeping willows along the length of the village. During spring pretty flowers can be seen such as snowdrops, bluebells, periwinkle and golden daffodils. This is the perfect antidote to city living.
