We all know that moose are massive animals who, when they're in the zone and in the rut, are going to smash one another with all they've got. When this happens, there are winners, and there are losers.
We took this bull in mid-October. We didn’t try to work the call much and took him at 550 yards due to terrain considerations and the presence of other moose in the area. Once we got up to him we saw the massive damage done to his face in combat. It appears as though the fronts of another bull torn him to the bone, making him blind in one eye. Once I got the knife into him (no shoulder mount here!) we saw the puss of infection all through his head, face and neck.
It was with a heightened respect for the species that we loaded this old guy up.
