STARFISH, 2019, 55x55x27cm (21.7x21.7x10.6 "), lacquer paint on shaped folded aluminum sheet. / I'm reposting these pics of a work of 2019 here, in 2020, because it seems to me to have a certain relationship, for me at least, with the two previous ones, among others. Question of surface: how can a surface be curved instead of being flat, it always amazes me, just as i am always surprised to see an plane in the sky: how, is, it, possible? / I was told recently (here the artist raises an eyebrow) that i should not post 'old' works with my current ones, that it could seem stylistically incoherent in the feed (here the artist raises a shoulder) for an inattentive observer. But who cares about an inattentive observer? First, style: i have no style, the concept of style in painting is indifferent to me, but it's true that certain purified 'styles', pure, even puritan, annoy me a little insofar as i sometimes smell there more a strategic and pragmatic approach aiming to attract the attention of the galleries, rather than the uncompromising aesthetic requirement to which they claim. Second, time (i have some doubts about that notion): time doesn't run in the chronology. In fact it does not flow at all, because if it exists it is perfectly still; and on this basis, what does it matter if a work from 2000 succeeds a piece from 2020? Ergo, in one way or another, in my opinion, it is important to get rid of time if you want to live happily enough. But all of this is questionable. (:-) / In this regard, by rereading the lessons given in 1952 by Martin Heidegger (What means to think) at the University of Freiburg im Breisgau, i always come back with the greatest interest to this sentence by Friedrich Nietzsche, whom he very often quotes: 'Revenge is the resentment of the will against time and its it was.' (Also sprach Zarathustra, 1883).
