Fun/interesting/🤮 workout today. Warm up & abs. 5km run in the red zone with my dog, apart from the yellow section where she decided to stop for a 🐕💩. Then, warm down. Maxed out 3bpm above my calculated max heart rate of 185. Hit my low of 177.6lbs from 215lbs 😬

CHEST DAY @ironculturenj

Few weeks into Prep and decided to show what a chest day looks like...thinking about doing a post for each day. Workout is in the specific order that I did them. Big fan of 2-3 pressing movements then going fully warmed up and a bit fatigued into a fly movement for a really solid pump. Nothing too fancy just work here.
•
1. DB incline (working up to a hard set 6-10) something I always do is a second set and I make it a pause rep set for as many as I can.
•
2. Arsenal Flat bench 8-10 reps
•
3. Smith incline (3 plates down to 2 to 1)
•
4. Pec Deck 3x20 then 1xMax set
•
5. Hammer strength decline drop set 4-3-2-1
•

⚡️The #RomanianDeadlift (or #RDL)⚡️
.
The Romanian Deadlift should be considered a prerequisite to the Deadlift. While the RDL can be performed under considerable load, it is normally used to serve a purpose such as positional patterning and strength or muscular growth. The RDL helps build the necessary posterior chain (hamstrings, glutes, back) and hip strength required to safely perform a deadlift from the floor. As a strict flat-backed hip hinge, the RDL is highly dependent on the hips, glutes, and hamstrings and focuses on optimal back positioning, which translates well to the Olympic lifts and hypertrophy-based training (muscular growth). Mastering the flat-backed hip hinge before deadlifting from the floor not only helps us reach low-hanging fruit as far as glute, hamstring, and back gains go, but failing to do so can be dangerous. Improper progression and development of the posterior chain can lead to overuse of the traps and erectors when pulling, which can lead to preventable injuries.✅

The Deadlift differs from the RDL in that the pattern starts and concludes with the bar in a dead-stop position on the floor. The Deadlift affords us gains in strength, power, and muscle mass, and is one of few “pillars” of full-body strength. Deadlifting from the floor utilizes a huge percentage of the human musculature and the movement’s ability to increase overall strength and muscle mass can positively effect the individual’s bone density, metabolism, and quality of life. The Deadlift should be utilized by athletes and general fitness enthusiasts alike, but only ONCE THE HIP HINGE HAS BEEN MASTERED.✅

In conclusion, some variation of BOTH the RDL and the Deadlift should be included in our programming in order to become strong, functional, and well-rounded athletes, but training volume and intensity of each should depend on the individual’s specific goals and needs🤘
