Some (most) of you know Ingrid. She is the brains, brawn and, well, everything behind Figg's. She is the blur in the background. As any small business owner knows, once you start, there is no stopping. From the time of conception (of the business) on, the majority of every day is spent figuring out how to make that venture run better, be better, generate more income, make people happier. Sometimes, that is from home; but, in the case of Ingrid and Figg's, that often means that she is in the shop, cooking your eggs, baking your bread, serving your soup; and every other thing that has to happen to make that wonderful café that is Figg's.
Being a small business owner is not for the faint of heart. It takes a lot of dedication and tenacity to make one run and be successful. It requires being hands on and finding the balance between what you need to do (as an owner), what can be delegated and what you have to (and can do) without running yourself into the ground. Although, this is certainly the case for any small, local shop you go into; this is beyond 100% the case for all the local businesses in Chestertown. The folks who own these businesses work hard. ----------
This time of year can be difficult for small businesses (especially here in Kent County.) Although those of us who live here year round know that there are wonderful things about our home in the dead of winter; the rest of the world does not. So, although it is not "Small Business Saturday" we encourage you to remember to shop and patronize locally all year long. Show your town and it's business (and business owners) that they are appreciated, and, more importantly, needed, all year long.
