This is one of my favourite mini sequences for freeing up my lower back / hip / sides region - it gets right into the places I carry tension and feels DELICIOUS. It’s part of the asana sequence I taught in my New Decade workshop, because my aim with that section of the afternoon was to free up the spine and get the prana flowing ready to dive deep into some meditation and self-enquiry.
For the purpose of the clip I’m only taking 4 slow breaths in each pose, but normally I’d stay for 8-12.
From Janu Sirsasana I walk my hands to the outside of the extended leg for a gorgeous stretchy twist. Then I come back, shift my hips so that I’m on a 45 degree angle towards the bent leg, and reach into the side bend. I like to keep my arm extended for half of it then take my hand behind my head. Then I take the top hand, put it behind me and roll forward onto the shin of the bent leg for an abbreviated Camatkarasana (Wild Thing). Sooooo yummy.
And I offer no apology for my lack of mat and paint spattered shorts - this idea that we need to have the right gear can turn into a trap when time is short. If you can move freely in the clothes you have on right now, you can rinse yourself out with a few favourite poses anytime you like, no ceremony, no fuss! - 38 minutes ago
