We're celebrating the Republic Day of India. It is on this day - January 26 in 1950 that India's Constitution came into effect. The Constitution of India ( Bhāratīya Saṃvidhāna) is the document that lays down the framework demarcating fundamental political code, structure, procedures, powers, and duties of government institutions and sets out fundamental rights, directive principles, and the duties of citizens. It is the longest written constitution of any country. B. R. Ambedkar, chairman of the drafting committee, is widely considered to be its chief architect.
It is this constitution that assures us our identity and our right to be. It is unitary and what binds us. In every way, it is the essence of yoga as applied to the whole country and all her people - regardless of the labels that can divide us.
Here's a reminder on this special day that we may dig deep in ourselves and be worthy of our citizenship and uphold the principles of our constitution... yoga is one part of who we are in the larger fabric of India.
